Sean Bean is known for getting killed on screen after only a few episodes, most recently with his beheading on HBO’s Game of Thrones. TNT passed around t-shirts with #DontKillSeanBean on them at the Television Critics Association, and one critic opened up the Q&A portion by addressing his multiple deaths. Bean responded by saying “It’s quite bizarre…I’ve died a few times and I’ve died quite a few different deaths. Maybe it’s the quality of my death.” His favorite death was in Lord of the Rings, stating it was quite “epic.”
Based on the award-winning book by novelist Robert Littell, Bean plays Martin Odum, an undercover agent working for the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations (D.C.O.) division. Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job, but he begins to question his own identity. Executive Producer David Wilcox says that “he [Odum] has ‘legends’ that are preexisting identities. They have their own apartment and car and drink that they order.” Bean was attracted to the role for that very reason, for the opportunity to play multiple characters as well as a chance to work with Howard Gordon, who is an executive producer on the series. Co-Star Ali Larter, who plays D.C.O. Operative Crystal McGuire, was praising Bean’s ability to morph into different identities, saying “it’s been amazing to watch him.”
