‘The Flash’ Pilot Preview: “City of Heroes” [Photos and Videos]

The Flash was by far one of my favorite pilots this fall TV season and I can’t wait for everyone to watch tonight’s premiere. The show comes with an amazing cast, some flashy special effects and a great addition to the CW lineup alongside the already fan-loved series Arrow.

Even though we’ve already had a sneak peek of what’s to come on The Flash through an episode of Arrow, we get to start from the beginning. From the lightning bolt, to discovering his powers, to the initial costume design and even a villain to fight.

Grant Gustin was a great choice in casting as he plays Barry in more of a nerdy, down-to-earth way as opposed to something more flashy or bad boy-ish like Oliver Queen.

The series follows Barry Allen, a CSI investigator at the Central City Police Department, who was struck by lightning in a freak storm and awakens from a nine-month come to discover he has been granted the gift of super speed. Allen teams up with S.T.A.R. Labs to help him understand his powers and save the innocent and protect the city. The freak storm was caused by the particle accelerator and Allen finds out he isn’t the only one who has gained special abilities.

The pilot episode titled “City of Heroes” does a great job of introducing the characters and background on how Barry Allen becomes The Flash but also sets up plot points for upcoming episodes. There are definitely a lot of easter eggs throughout the episode. The villain in the pilot isn’t that exciting, nor is the fight scene, but they needed a way to show Barry’s new ability, so I’ll let that go. I’m hoping they don’t do a villain of the week but it’s only the pilot, so we’ll wait to see what happens.

The Flash premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CW.

Episode Description: After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his new found powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.
