Eliza Coupe Gets ‘Benched’ in USA’s New Legal Comedy

USA’s new comedy Benched stars Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings) as Nina Whitley, a former corporate lawyer who has a stress-induced breakdown, in front of her entire office mind you, and is forced to slum it with the public defenders.

Coupe is such an amazing actress with impeccable comedic timing and this role was definitely made for her. If you can’t wait for tonight to watch the premiere, USA has already made it available online.

Benched joins the likes of USA’s other half-hour comedies including Sirens and Playing House, both of which premiered earlier this year (although still no word on Playing House). The lawyer comedy was created by Michaela Watkins (Saturday Night Live, Trophy Wife) and Damon Jones (Halfway Home), with John Enbom (Party Down) serving as executive producer and showrunner. Mark Gordon (Criminal Minds, Ray Donovan) and Andrea Shay (Family Tools) are producing for The Mark Gordon Company.

The series stars Jay Harrington (Better Off Ted), Oscar Nunez (The Office), Maria Bamford (Adventure Time), Carter MacIntyre (Drop Dead Diva) and Jolene Purdy (Under the Dome).

Benched premieres Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 10:30/9:30c on USA.

Episode Description: Distinguished corporate lawyer Nina Whitley has given up everything in her climb to the top. However, when she’s passed over for a coveted promotion and discovers that her fiancé Trent is now engaged to another woman—Nina has an epic meltdown. Now, shunned from the corporate world, the only place Nina can get a job is at the Public Defender’s office.
