The CW Renews 8 Shows Including ‘Arrow,’ ‘Jane the Virgin,’ The Flash’ and More for 2015-2016 Season

The CW Network has picked up eight of its current series for the 2015-2016 season, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW, during the network’s session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena.

The renewals include some obvious choices like Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, The Originals and The Flash, which is the most-watched show in the CW’s history. Some shows that don’t have the best ratings but definitely fan-favorites include The 100, Reign and Jane the Virgin, for which title star Gina Rodriguez is nominated for a Golden Globe.

In essence, The CW picked up all of the scripted series from its Fall 2014 schedule to next season.

“Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience,” said Pedowitz.  “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups.”

The CW’s ‘Jane the Virgin’: “Pilot” Preview [Photos]

The CW’s Jane the Virgin is by far one of the best pilots I’ve seen all year. I might even go as far as saying even the last couple of years. I fell in the love with the show, the characters and Gina Rodriguez the minute I pressed play. Based on the telenovela Juana la Virgen, “Jane” is the perfect daughter; good grades, dating the perfect guy (Brett Dier) and never gets into trouble.

The series follows Jane as she accidentally gets inseminated after a routine checkup at her doctor’s office. Turns out, the father of Jane’s (unintentional) baby is Rafael (Justin Baldoni), a guy who she had a romantic day with years ago and also happens to be her current boss. You can’t make this stuff up! Oh, wait, you can.

The show is as campy and as soapy as it sounds, which is the best part. Jane, her mother (Andrea Navedo) and grandmother (Ivonne Call) all sit and watch telenovelas every day together. The show definitely has an ABC feel to it, a-la Ugly Betty with a CW twist.

Gina Rodriguez is absolutely refreshing and the show is definitely a must-see.

Jane the Virgin premieres on Monday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

A NEW ONE-HOUR COMEDY ON THE CW — Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) is a driven young woman studying to become a teacher, nursing a dream to be a writer, and supporting herself with a job at a hot new Miami hotel. All the years of watching telenovelas with the two women who raised her — her sexy, young-at-heart mother, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) and her still-devout grandmother, Alba (Ivonne Coll) — have given Jane a slightly unrealistic view of romance, but her wonderful fiancé, Michael (Brett Dier), is supportive and even understands her decision to “save herself” until marriage. All of Jane’s meticulous life plans are turned upside down, however, when she sees her doctor for a routine check-up and is accidentally artificially inseminated with a specimen meant for someone else. Now, Jane is faced with the most important decisions of her life — a life that has suddenly become as dramatic, complicated and unpredictable as the telenovelas she has always loved. Justin Baldoni, Jaime Camil and Yael Grobglas also star.
