The CW Renews 8 Shows Including ‘Arrow,’ ‘Jane the Virgin,’ The Flash’ and More for 2015-2016 Season

The CW Network has picked up eight of its current series for the 2015-2016 season, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW, during the network’s session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena.

The renewals include some obvious choices like Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, The Originals and The Flash, which is the most-watched show in the CW’s history. Some shows that don’t have the best ratings but definitely fan-favorites include The 100, Reign and Jane the Virgin, for which title star Gina Rodriguez is nominated for a Golden Globe.

In essence, The CW picked up all of the scripted series from its Fall 2014 schedule to next season.

“Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience,” said Pedowitz.  “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups.”

On Friday at the Television Critics Association, Lifetime announced that they have ordered two additional episodes of its limited six-episode mini-series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles in which Christina Ricci reprises her role from the networks hit movie Lizzie Borden Took an Ax.

If you’re wondering how they can turn this into a show, you’re not alone. Christina Ricci, who was present at the winter session panel on Friday, says “it’s a fictionalized version of what happens after the trial when she continues to misbehave.”

“She doesn’t always use an ax,” added Ricci. So there’s always that to look forward to. You sort of end up rooting for her in a way, and apparently, both Ricci and DuVall had a lot of “fun” while shooting the series.

Lifetime Synopsis: “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles delivers an intense and fictionalized account of actual events and people surrounding Lizzie’s life after her controversial acquittal of the horrific double murder of her father and stepmother in 1892, when the exonerated figure lives a life awash in newfound celebrity filled with scandalous love affairs.  But when numerous people close to Lizzie – ranging from her half-brother William (Andrew Howard, Hatfields & McCoys) to Broadway luminaries and her business associate/underworld kingpin Mr. Flowers (Emmy nominee Jonathan Banks,Breaking Bad) — start to mysteriously die under brutal and strange circumstances, legendary Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo (Cole Hauser, Good Will Hunting) becomes determined to prove her involvement in their ultimate demise.  Jessy Schram (Falling Skies) plays Nancy O’Keefe, an alluring and ambitious actress and dancer who befriends Lizzie, and Emmy nominee John Heard (The Sopranos) will portray William Almy, the business partner of Lizzie’s murdered father Andrew.”

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles premieres in April 2015 on Lifetime.

If you were a fan of Spartacus then you’ll be thrilled to learn that Liam McIntyre has been tapped to play Mark Mardon, a.k.a. Weather Wizard on The CW’s Flash.

According to ComicBook.com his character will appear in the 15th and 16th episode. If you recall from the pilot, The Flash fought Clyde Mardon (Chad Rook), who was presumed dead after his helicopter was caught in a storm the night the particle accelerator exploded, and was the first “metahuman” they discovered (besides Barry of course).

Mark Mardon, the new Weather Wizard, returns to Central City to get justice for his brother and uses his powers, similar to Clyde’s, to find the man that shot him.

The Flash returns on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on on The CW.

Nicole Richie’s ‘Candidly Nicole’ Renewed for Season 2

Shortly after the season finale, VH1 announced that they have renewed Nicole Richie’s pseudo-reality series Candidly Nicole for a second season that will air spring/summer 2015. The series is based on the AOL version with the same name, and shows Richie in her everyday activities, only heightened to be a bit quirky and ridiculous.

Richie plays up her personality and eccentric style for laughs, poking fun at herself and her life which makes her that much more likable.

Candidly Nicole has surpassed every goal that we set for the launch. The series increased viewers in its time period by 50 perfect, attracted thousands of new viewers to the channel and shared Nicole Richie’s sharp wit and comedic flair for highlighting some of the absurdities of the real world,” said Susan Levision, EVP of Original Programming and Production for VH1. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Nicole on another season.”

Candidly Nicole is produced by Telepictures and World of Wonder. Richie, Michael Baum, Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell and Carrie Franklin serve as executive producers. ‘The Blacklist’ Casts Paul Reubens as Villain in Season 2

Pee-Wee Herman is on a new adventure and the latest to join the list of guest stars on NBC’s The Blacklist. According to EW.com, NBC has tapped Paul Reubens for the role of Mr. Vargas, a dapper, finicky “muscle” who handles delicate situations in the criminal underworld. He will first appear in season two’s third episode and will stay for at least two episodes.

“It’s going to be something totally different, and it’s going to be awesome,” executive producer Jon Bokenkamp tells EW. “It can’t get strange enough for me. One of the most fun things is being able to write for actors who I’ve admired and think are interesting and try to play against expectations. I’d say he’s gonna shake things up a bit when enters Red’s orbit.”

Reubens started work this Friday. He joins a list of recently announced guest stars that includes Mary-Louis Parker, Lee Tergesen and Krysten Ritter.

The Blacklist stars James Spader, Megan Boone, Diego Klattenhoff, Harry Lennix and Ryan Eggold.
