Cheers to Esquire’s New Series ‘Uncorked’

From Esquire Network's new original series, UNCORKED, Sommelier Jane Lopes smells a pour.

Do you love TV? Do you like wine? If you said yes to both, then I have the show for you! Well, Esquire does, but you get the drift.

Based on the documentary Somm, Esquire’s new original series Uncorked follows six aspiring master sommeliers from New York, as they prepare for the Court of Masters Sommelier exam. Master Sommelier is more than just a title; it’s a badge of honor, and to earn it you need to be a wine expert in mind, body, and spirit – an achievement measured by passing one of the world’s most difficult exams. They’ll work hard, and drink a lot of wine (sign me up!) as they compete in a series of preliminary competitions, leading up to the big exam.  If they pass, they’ll be let into a club with just over 200 members worldwide, and granted access to the most desirable jobs in the entire food and wine industry. Fail, and it’s back to the charcuterie board.

“Wine is loved by people all over the world, but only a handful can say they’ve actually “mastered” it,” said Matt Hanna, head of original programming, Esquire Network.  “We’re excited to take viewers inside this highly-competitive world and showcase the stories of these young wine experts as they sacrifice everything to tackle a test that has defeated thousands of candidates since it started 40 years ago.”

Personally, I’m not a big reality show fan, but this show is legit my jam. All my favorite things wrapped up in one. Plus, I get to drink wine while watching sommeliers drink wine!

Uncorked premieres Tuesday, November 10 at 10/9c on Esquire.

Premiere Episode Description: The Master Sommelier Exam is only three months away, so the somms start sharpening their skills and immersing themselves in wine knowledge – in the hope that they can defy the odds and pass the grueling Master Sommelier Exam. Their abilities  are all put to the test at New York’s Eleven Madison Park; and it’s abundantly clear that everyone has a lot of work to do if they’re going to do well during the actual test.

The series is produced by Left/Right with Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman serving as Executive Producers. The directors of the documentary “Somm,” Jason Wise, and Christina Wise, and Peter Goldwyn also serve as Executive Producers.

What I’m Drinking: Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Grüner Veltliner, especially the 2013 NikolaihofHefeabzugGrüner Veltliner.
